The Ministry of Agriculture is the Imperial government department responsible for overseeing all agricultural and horticultural production across the galaxy. As a direct continuation of the Republic-era agricultural agencies, the Ministry was reorganized under the New Order to eliminate waste, reduce corporate exploitation, and ensure reliable food security for every Imperial citizen.
Its primary mission is to maintain stable grain and food production, coordinate resource allocation between sectors, and support the Empire’s reconstruction and military needs. The Ministry works to prevent the famines and supply shortages that plagued the late Republic, particularly in the Outer Rim, while promoting mechanized farming, droid labor efficiency, and high-yield crop development.
The Minister of Agriculture, appointed by Emperor Draco Tanos and confirmed by the Imperial Senate, holds authority over galactic agricultural policy. The Ministry may:
The Ministry coordinates closely with the Ministry of Interior for logistics, the Ministry of Security for enforcement of quotas and black-market suppression, and the Judicial Forces when criminal cases involve food-related violations.
Agriworlds are planets or moons specifically designated and optimized by the Ministry for large-scale food production. These worlds often undergo intensive terraforming, soil enrichment, and irrigation projects, relying heavily on droid labor and genetically optimized crops. Primary agriworlds focus almost exclusively on agriculture, while secondary agriworlds balance farming with other industries. The Ministry prioritizes stable, high-output agriworlds to reduce dependence on volatile Outer Rim imports and ensure consistent supply to the Core and military forces.
The Agricultural Enforcement Division serves as the Ministry’s field arm. It investigates black-market food trafficking, enforces production quotas, and shuts down illegal hydroponic operations or unauthorized bio-engineered crop experiments. Agents are trained in investigative and paramilitary tactics and coordinate with Sector Rangers when cases cross jurisdictional lines.
