Description
Additional armor encloses the engineering section and strengthens the connecting spine, allowing the frigate to remain with assault groups under concentrated fire. Expanded turbolaser and ion-cannon batteries engage hostile escorts while distributed point-defense emplacements protect the ship and nearby transports. Eighteen TIE-series starfighters occupy armored external berths along the spine, permitting exceptionally rapid launch and recovery during combat operations. The exposed berths restrict extensive maintenance while underway, so the AF76 normally operates with fleet auxiliaries or a supporting base during prolonged deployments.
