Description
The compact warship carries batteries of concussion-missile launchers optimized for sustained fire from beyond the effective range of many defensive guns. Its salvos can saturate protected approaches, damage stations, and support planetary assault forces without closing to turbolaser range. Modest armor, limited close-defense armament, and slow maneuvering make the cruiser dependent upon escorts. Broadside vessels normally operate in bombard lines or behind a screening force that supplies targeting data and intercepts fast attackers.
