Description
Broad port and starboard flight decks allow the frigate to launch a large fighter group, receive shuttles, and bring suspect vessels aboard for inspection. Turbolaser, ion-cannon, laser, and tractor-beam batteries support interception and boarding operations without burdening the ship with cruiser-scale offensive weapons. Extensive stores and accommodation permit prolonged independent patrols, while the embarked wing gives isolated commands a rapid response force. Newly commissioned naval officers frequently begin fleet service aboard Ecliptic-class frigates before assignment to heavier warships.
