The Imperial Navy is organized into five primary branches, each with distinct responsibilities. These branches operate with a high degree of independence while supporting one another to maintain the Empire's dominance in space. The Navy's starfighters (under the Flight Branch) primarily consist of non-hyperdrive models, with many modified for remote/drone control from their carriers.
The Line Branch is responsible for strategy, tactics, and administration of the Navy's warships, capital ships, and support ships. It oversees the commanders and crews of these vessels. The branch is divided into the Deck Division, Logistics Division, and Administration Division.
The Flight Branch oversees all flight operations of combat starships and the Empire's starfighter forces through the Starfighter Corps. It manages pilots and support personnel. Junior officers in this branch use the "Flight" prefix. The TIE fighter is the mainstay of the branch, with most models lacking hyperdrives and many modified for drone control from carriers.
The Fleet Support Branch handles maintenance and engineering duties. It is divided into the Engineering Division (sublight and hyperspace engines, hull integrity) and the Technical Services Division (power distribution, life-support, and other specialties).
The Support Service Branch provides essential support services to enable the Navy to perform its duties. It is organized into five main divisions: Ordnance (armaments), Gunnery (weapon operation), Communications (information systems), Biological (medical services), and Astrogation (hyperspace and navigation).
The Security Branch is responsible for shipboard security, military police duties, and ground support operations. It is primarily composed of Imperial Navy Troopers (also known as Star Destroyer troopers or Naval Troopers). These troops protect naval vessels and installations, handle boarding actions, and provide internal security. They wear black uniforms and protective helmets and are distinct from the Imperial Army and Stormtrooper Corps.
