Order of Battle

Imperial X-wing superiority snubfighters

The Imperial Starfighter Corps maintains a flexible and highly structured organizational system designed to achieve and maintain space superiority across the galaxy. Formations can be reinforced and task organized as operational needs require.

Overall Hierarchy

The standard chain of command flows from the Numbered Aero Forces down through Wings, Groups, Squadrons, and Flights. This structure allows for both large scale strategic operations and precise tactical employment of starfighter forces.

Flight / Element

The smallest tactical unit, consisting of 2 to 4 starfighters. Flights form the basic building blocks of all larger formations.

Squadron

The primary tactical unit of the Starfighter Corps. A standard Squadron contains 12 to 24 starfighters. Several specialized types exist:

Superiority Squadron — Primary space superiority and dogfighting.

Interceptor Squadron — High speed interception and rapid reaction.

Assault Squadron — Heavy attack and anti capital ship roles.

Bomber Squadron — Dedicated bombing and ground attack missions.

Reconnaissance Squadron — Long range and tactical reconnaissance.

Special Missions Squadron — Elite multi role and special operations support.

Group

A Group typically contains 3 to 6 Squadrons. Common types include Superiority Groups, Assault Groups, Bomber Groups, Mixed Groups, and Reconnaissance Groups.

Wing

A Wing is composed of 2 to 4 Groups and serves as a major operational formation. Specialized Wings include Superiority Wings, Bomber Wings, Assault Wings, Reconnaissance Wings, and Composite Wings.

Sector Wing

Each Sector is assigned a Sector Wing that coordinates all Starfighter Corps assets within that Sector. Sector Wings work in close cooperation with the corresponding Sector Group of the Imperial Navy and the Sector Army.

Numbered Aero Force

Numbered Aero Forces are the highest formation in the normal Order of Battle. There is one Numbered Aero Force assigned to each of the twenty Priority Oversectors. They coordinate all Starfighter Corps operations within their Oversector and work directly with the corresponding Oversector Group of the Navy and the Sector Armies under that Oversector.
