Stormtrooper Specializations

line

Stormtrooper specializations are qualifications, equipment establishments, and deployable unit types maintained within the Corps. Most clone troopers begin as line Stormtroopers before completing additional instruction for a particular environment, weapon system, reconnaissance role, or form of assault.

Line Stormtroopers

Line Stormtroopers form the principal combat strength of every Corps. They are trained for shipboard deployment, urban combat, planetary assault, boarding actions, security operations, and rapid movement between theatres. Their Phase III armor accepts modular environmental and mission equipment without requiring an entirely separate service branch.

Environmental Assault Specializations

Desert Assault Troopers

Operate in arid, dusty, and high-temperature environments with enhanced filtration, hydration systems, heat shielding, and long-range survival equipment.

Cold-Weather Assault Troopers

Descended from the Grand Army’s cold-assault formations. Their sealed armor, insulated body glove, and heated life-support systems permit sustained operations in ice, snow, and extreme cold.

Wetland Assault Troopers

Trained for swamps, jungles, floodplains, and disease-prone terrain. Equipment emphasizes sealed joints, biological protection, climbing, and low-visibility navigation.

Aquatic Assault Troopers

Conduct underwater infiltration, submerged demolition, littoral assault, and security of oceanic installations using rebreathers, pressure systems, and specialized propulsion packs.

Zero-Gravity Assault Troopers

Board vessels, seize stations, and fight in vacuum or microgravity. Their armor includes extended life support, magnetic anchoring, maneuvering jets, and reinforced sealing.

Hazard-Environment Troopers

Operate in radiation zones, toxic atmospheres, chemical spills, volcanic regions, and contaminated facilities with mission-specific sealed armor and detection equipment.

Assault and Weapons Specializations

  • Airborne Assault Troopers conduct high-altitude insertion, rapid descent, and vertical envelopment.
  • Jet Troopers use personal flight packs for short-range aerial assault, pursuit, and access to otherwise inaccessible positions.
  • Heavy Weapons Troopers operate repeating blasters, portable missile systems, anti-armor weapons, and squad-support cannon.
  • Incinerator Troopers employ controlled flame and thermal weapons against fortified, infested, or otherwise resistant positions.
  • Combat Engineer Troopers clear obstacles, breach structures, lay or remove mines, and construct field fortifications.
  • Demolition and Breaching Troopers specialize in forced entry, bunker reduction, shipboard breach operations, and precision explosive work.
  • Artillery Troopers crew the Corps’ organic mortars, portable support weapons, and attached field-artillery systems.

Reconnaissance and Special Operations

Advanced Recon Force Troopers

ARF troopers conduct pathfinding, mounted reconnaissance, observation, screening, and forward surveillance. They fulfil the battlefield role sometimes assigned elsewhere to so-called scout troopers; the Stormtrooper Corps retains the older and more capable ARF tradition.

Advanced Recon Commandos

ARC troopers are independently minded elite operators selected for initiative, adaptability, and leadership. They perform deep reconnaissance, special missions, intelligence collection, combat advising, and advanced instruction. Every Corps maintains an ARC cadre, while larger ARC detachments may be placed directly under Stormtrooper Command.

Imperial Commandos

Imperial Commandos are the successors of the Republic’s clone commandos. Organized into small teams, they undertake direct action, sabotage, hostage recovery, infiltration, sensitive captures, and missions requiring a level of autonomy inappropriate for conventional formations.

Galactic Marines

The title belongs principally to the 21st Nova Corps. Galactic Marines are distinguished by shipboard assault, hostile-environment warfare, and sustained operations far from conventional support, rather than by a universal Corps-wide armor qualification.

24th Security Corps

The 24th Security Corps provides permanent military support to the Imperial Order. Most of its members are ordinary Phase III Stormtroopers trained in installation security, convoy protection, artifact containment, and coordinated operations with Imperial Knights.

Its distinctive Order Support Troopers wear reinforced specialist armor in the colors authorized for the 24th Corps. They are trained to maintain disciplined fields of fire around lightsaber combat, resist panic and disorientation caused by hostile Force-users, secure dangerous relics, and provide close-range stopping power with scatterguns and heavy carbines. Their purpose is to protect and reinforce the Imperial Order, never to persecute it.

Service Boundaries

The Corps does not maintain Scout Troopers or Storm Commandos under those names. Reconnaissance belongs to ARF and ARC personnel; commando missions belong to Imperial Commandos. Shore-defense troops, combat drivers, tank crews, and most conventional vehicle specialists belong to the Imperial Army, though Stormtrooper units may receive attached Army support when required.
