Adjustments is the most elite and closely held branch of Imperial Intelligence. It exists for situations that have moved beyond the ordinary capacity of the other bureaus. When a problem cannot be resolved through standard intelligence work, analysis, or operations, the Ubiqtorate turns to Adjustments.
Agents of Adjustments receive their orders directly and in person from members of the Ubiqtorate. No written record of the mission is kept. The assignment is delivered verbally, the objectives are stated, and the agent is given full discretion to resolve the matter by whatever means prove necessary. Once the task is complete, the agent reports success or failure in the same manner. There is no intermediate paperwork and no formal after-action trail within the normal Intelligence archives.
This direct relationship with the Ubiqtorate places Adjustments outside the ordinary chain of command that governs the rest of Imperial Intelligence. Sector and system level personnel have no authority over Adjustments teams, and Adjustments teams have no standing responsibility to keep those personnel informed.
The other bureaus are expected to handle the great majority of Intelligence work. Adjustments is deliberately kept small and is activated only when those normal channels have proven insufficient. Its existence allows the Ubiqtorate to intervene in critical situations without disrupting the broader structure of the organization or creating a permanent special operations bureaucracy.
Because of the extreme sensitivity of its work, membership in Adjustments is limited and highly selective. Agents are drawn from the most capable personnel across Imperial Intelligence and are expected to operate with complete independence once tasked.
When Adjustments requires dedicated combat support, it draws upon the Advanced Weapons Research Troopers, commonly referred to as AWR Troopers. These specialists are assigned from the ranks of the Advanced Weapons Research division and operate under Adjustments authority for the duration of a given task.
AWR Troopers are equipped with experimental and highly advanced systems not issued to conventional forces. Their training emphasizes rapid, decisive action in environments where ordinary Imperial troops would be insufficient. They provide Adjustments with a reliable, deniable combat capability that can be deployed and withdrawn without leaving a conventional military footprint.
Like the rest of Adjustments, AWR Trooper deployments are authorized directly by the Ubiqtorate and leave minimal formal record within the wider Intelligence or military systems.
Adjustments does not maintain standing field units in the conventional sense. Teams are assembled as required for specific assignments and are dissolved when the work is finished. The branch therefore has no public profile, no permanent installations of its own, and no routine presence in the Intelligence order of battle. Its effectiveness rests on secrecy, direct authority from the Ubiqtorate, and the quality of the individuals selected for its work.
In this way Adjustments serves as the final instrument of Imperial Intelligence when ordinary methods are no longer adequate.
