The Sector Branches form the territorial foundation of the Intelligence Bureau. There is one Sector Branch for each conventional sector of the Galactic Empire. Each is staffed by specialists who possess detailed knowledge of the political, military, economic, and social conditions of the region they cover.
Sector Branches exist to ensure that the Intelligence Bureau’s assessments are grounded in local reality rather than in purely centralized analysis. Personnel assigned to a Sector Branch are expected to maintain continuous familiarity with the power structures, population centers, major industries, transportation networks, and potential sources of unrest within their sector. This expertise is made available to the rest of the Bureau whenever a broader evaluation is required.
When Sedition examines organized opposition, it draws heavily on the relevant Sector Branches for regional context. When a Crisis formation is assembled, experts from the affected Sector Branches are among the first personnel called upon. In ordinary times the Sector Branches continue their routine work of monitoring developments within their jurisdictions and feeding that information upward through the Intelligence Bureau’s reporting channels.
Sector Branches do not conduct independent field operations. Their primary function is analytical and advisory. Operational tasks arising from their work are passed to the Bureau of Operations or, in exceptional cases, to Adjustments.
Each Sector Branch is organized to reflect the complexity of the sector it covers. Heavily populated or strategically important sectors maintain larger staffs with more specialized desks. Quieter or more sparsely inhabited sectors operate with smaller teams. In all cases the Branch remains responsible for producing accurate, timely, and regionally informed assessments for the benefit of Imperial Intelligence as a whole.
By maintaining a permanent presence in every sector, the Intelligence Bureau ensures that no significant development within the Empire escapes the notice of those charged with understanding the threats that face it.
