The Internal Organization Bureau, known within Imperial Intelligence as IntOrg, is responsible for the security of Imperial Intelligence itself. Its mandate covers both external threats directed against the organization and those that may arise from within its own ranks.
IntOrg agents are expected to combine a high degree of political and professional courtesy with complete ruthlessness when a genuine threat is identified. The bureau has cultivated a reputation for restraint in the use of its authority. It does not conduct political witch-hunts and does not abuse its access for personal or factional advantage. As a result, IntOrg is generally respected by personnel in the other bureaus, who recognize that its work is directed at the protection of the organization rather than at internal power struggles.
The Internal Organization Bureau is divided into two principal branches:
IntOrg does not formulate external strategy and does not conduct operations against targets outside the organization except insofar as those targets threaten Imperial Intelligence directly. Its sole concern is the integrity and physical security of the service. By maintaining that integrity, IntOrg allows the rest of Imperial Intelligence to function without the constant fear of compromise from within or of uncontrolled access to its facilities and personnel.
Through disciplined internal security and careful counterintelligence work, the Internal Organization Bureau protects the instrument upon which the Empire relies for much of its awareness of external threats.
