The Internal Counterintelligence Group

Internal Counterintelligence, known within Imperial Intelligence as IntCon, is the branch of the Internal Organization Bureau responsible for detecting and neutralizing enemy agents or spy rings that have penetrated the service itself.

Mission

IntCon exists to ensure that Imperial Intelligence remains free of hostile infiltration. Its personnel investigate indications of compromised individuals, unauthorized information flows, and organized attempts by external services to place agents inside the organization. When a penetration is confirmed, IntCon is responsible for containing the damage, identifying the full extent of the compromise, and removing the hostile presence.

Agents of IntCon are granted extensive access to data through Sector Plexus. This access is necessary for the thorough examination of communications, personnel records, and operational histories that may reveal the presence of an enemy network.

Organization and Character

IntCon is structured in a manner that deliberately resembles a miniature version of Imperial Intelligence. It maintains its own sections for analysis, operations, and intelligence work, allowing it to investigate internal threats with a high degree of self-sufficiency. The boundaries between these internal sections are often informal, and the branch as a whole is known for a relatively loose and pragmatic atmosphere compared with the more rigidly hierarchical components of the service.

Despite this informal style, IntCon’s work is among the most sensitive undertaken by Imperial Intelligence. A successful penetration of the service can compromise operations across the galaxy. The branch therefore operates with considerable autonomy and with the full backing of the Internal Organization Bureau when action is required.

Place within IntOrg

IntCon focuses on the counterintelligence dimension of internal security, while Internal Security (IntSec) handles the physical protection of personnel and facilities. The two branches coordinate closely when a threat involves both physical access and the possibility of compromised personnel. Together they form the complete internal protective capability of Imperial Intelligence.

By systematically hunting for and removing hostile infiltrators, IntCon helps ensure that the information and operations of Imperial Intelligence remain under Imperial control.
