The Tech Group

Tech is the branch of the Analysis Bureau responsible for the examination of enemy hardware and the provision of superior equipment to Imperial Intelligence. Its dual mandate is to determine how hostile systems function and to ensure that Intelligence personnel possess the technical means to operate effectively against them.

Mission

When foreign or enemy technology falls into Imperial hands, Tech is tasked with its complete analysis. Personnel reverse-engineer devices, identify design principles, locate weaknesses, and determine how the systems can be countered or exploited. The results of this work are passed both to the rest of Imperial Intelligence and, when appropriate, to the wider Imperial technical and military establishments.

In addition to analysis, Tech develops and produces selected items of equipment for the exclusive use of Imperial Intelligence. These range from specialized communications and surveillance devices to more advanced systems intended to give field agents a decisive technical advantage.

Resources and Character

Tech is provided with a substantial budget and a staff of highly skilled scientists, engineers, and technologists. The branch has a reputation for attracting personnel of exceptional ability, many of whom produce work of genuine innovation. At the same time, the administrative side of Tech has historically struggled to set clear research priorities outside the immediate expertise of its leadership, with the result that the branch is generally stronger at analyzing existing systems than at managing long-term development programs of its own.

Tech maintains technical outposts on selected worlds where specialized research and recovery work can be conducted away from the main Intelligence facilities.

Place within Analysis

Tech supports every other component of Imperial Intelligence that relies on technical superiority or on an accurate understanding of enemy capabilities. Its findings inform the work of Signal and Cryptanalysis, assist Surveillance and Infiltration with specialized equipment, and provide the Bureau of Operations with tools tailored to specific operational needs.

By combining rigorous analysis of hostile technology with the selective development of superior systems, Tech ensures that Imperial Intelligence remains technically competitive across the full range of its activities.
