The Intelligence Bureau

The Intelligence Bureau is the interpretive and predictive arm of Imperial Intelligence. It receives processed data from the Analysis Bureau and subjects that material to expert evaluation in order to determine the intentions, capabilities, and likely future actions of the Empire’s adversaries.

Where Analysis focuses on the collection and technical examination of information, the Intelligence Bureau concentrates on judgment. Its personnel assess trends, identify emerging threats, and produce the assessments that guide the strategic decisions of the Ubiqtorate and the operational planning of the other bureaus.

Structure

The Intelligence Bureau is organized into several permanent components and one temporary formation that is raised only when circumstances require it.

• Sector Branches – The basic territorial divisions of the Bureau. Each sector of the Empire maintains its own Sector Branch staffed by specialists familiar with the political, military, and social conditions of that region. These branches supply local expertise to the rest of the Bureau and serve as the primary source of regionally grounded analysis.
• Sedition – The branch responsible for the study of organized opposition to the Empire. It tracks resistance movements, assesses their growth or decline, and attempts to forecast the direction of anti-Imperial activity.
• External Communications (ExComm) – The section that manages high-priority and emergency communications between the bureaus of Imperial Intelligence, the Ubiqtorate, and the Imperial military. ExComm ensures that critical information reaches the proper authorities without delay.
• Crisis – A temporary formation assembled from experts drawn from the permanent branches when a situation of exceptional urgency or scale arises. A Crisis group operates under the direct authority of the Ubiqtorate and, in the most severe cases, may report to a Grand Moff or to the Emperor himself. Once the emergency has passed, the Crisis formation is dissolved and its personnel return to their normal assignments.

Function within Imperial Intelligence

The Intelligence Bureau does not conduct field operations of its own. Its value lies in the quality of its assessments and the speed with which those assessments can be delivered to the decision-makers who require them. By combining the technical output of Analysis with the specialized knowledge of its Sector Branches and the focused work of Sedition, the Bureau provides the Empire with a coherent picture of the threats it faces and the opportunities available to it.

Through this work the Intelligence Bureau supports the broader mission of Imperial Intelligence: the accurate identification of danger and the timely presentation of that information to those charged with the security of the Galactic Empire.
