The Infiltration Group

Infiltration is the branch of the Bureau of Operations responsible for the long-term placement of agents inside hostile, suspect, or strategically important organizations. Its work is among the most demanding and carefully prepared of any activity undertaken by Imperial Intelligence.

Preparation

Candidates for Infiltration do not enter the branch directly. They are first reassigned to the Intelligence Bureau, where they serve as assistants to Sector Branch personnel and later work with Sedition. During this period they absorb large amounts of specialized knowledge, often with the assistance of mnemiotic drugs that enhance learning and retention. Only those who complete this preparatory phase successfully and demonstrate the necessary stability and judgment are accepted into Infiltration proper.

The process is deliberately rigorous. Agents who will spend months or years under deep cover must possess both the technical skills required for their assigned role and the psychological resilience to maintain their cover under sustained pressure.

Method

Once accepted, an Infiltration agent is prepared for a specific target organization or environment. Cover identities are constructed with care, and the agent is inserted only when the conditions for a sustainable presence have been established. The goal is not a short-term intelligence gain but a lasting position from which information can be gathered, influence exerted, or, when authorized, decisive action taken.

In certain cases Renik will identify an enemy intelligence network that is judged more valuable intact than destroyed. Responsibility for that network is then transferred to Infiltration, which assumes control of the operation and determines how best to exploit it for Imperial purposes.

Place within the Bureau

Infiltration works in close coordination with Surveillance, Renik, and the analytical components of Imperial Intelligence. Its agents provide the Bureau of Operations with access that cannot be obtained through other means. Because of the time and resources invested in each placement, Infiltration operations are authorized only when the potential return clearly justifies the risk and the commitment of personnel.

Through patient preparation and disciplined execution, Infiltration gives Imperial Intelligence a presence inside organizations that would otherwise remain closed to it.
