The Science Group

The Science Group connects the Empire's scientific and technical communities with the purposes of the New Order. It reports upon research activity, organizes specialists across sector boundaries, and directs professional attention toward discoveries capable of strengthening Imperial security, prosperity, health, and long-term independence.

Responsibilities

• Report upon scientific institutions, capabilities, shortages, and significant discoveries through the Sector Monitors.
• Organize scientific congresses, technical exchanges, professional societies, and public lectures.
• Identify research of broad value in health, agriculture, energy, transportation, communications, defense, and environmental recovery.
• Advise on research infrastructure, common technical standards, and the training and distribution of specialists.
• Recommend cooperative projects that exceed the capacity of a single world, corporation, or institution.

Science and Imperial Policy

The Group encourages scientific freedom within the duties imposed by law, security, ethics, and public necessity. It opposes the concealment of dangerous work, the export of restricted knowledge, the misuse of sapient subjects, and the subordination of Imperial research to hostile governments or private interests. It also records professional objections when immediate political or military demands threaten research essential to the Empire's future.

Authority and Partnerships

The Ministry of Science establishes policy and administers government research. The Group does not command laboratories or authorize classified programs by itself. It organizes support, supplies assessments, and works with universities, guilds, industry, territorial governments, and the Ministries of Science, Health, Education, Energy, Agriculture, and War.

Progress in Service

Knowledge becomes Imperial progress when it is disciplined, responsibly applied, and placed in service to civilization. The Science Group exists to ensure that discovery is neither isolated from the needs of the Empire nor sacrificed to the convenience of the moment.
