ISB Investigations is the Bureau's principal case-building branch. It turns security reporting into tested findings, identifies responsible persons and networks, and prepares evidence for operational action or lawful prosecution.

Casework

• Counterespionage, sabotage, sedition, terror, and infiltration investigations.
• Security inquiries involving Imperial personnel, facilities, information, and procurement.
• Financial and communications analysis linked to organized internal threats.
• Witness interviews, evidence recovery, forensic coordination, and case reconstruction.
• Joint task forces with the Imperial Office of Criminal Investigations, Imperial Intelligence, the Inspectorate, Judicial Forces, military investigators, or local police.

Opening and Conduct of Cases

A case requires an articulated security predicate, registered source information, and supervisory approval proportionate to its sensitivity. Investigators seek judicial process where required, preserve chains of custody, and record exculpatory as well as incriminating evidence.

Relationship with IOCI

IOCI retains general Imperial criminal jurisdiction, while ISB Investigations addresses cases founded upon an internal-security predicate. Where the same conduct presents both criminal and internal-security dimensions, a recorded lead agency or joint case command defines responsibility for interviews, searches, arrests, evidence, and liaison with the Ministry of Justice. Neither body may open a duplicative case merely to evade the authority or review governing the other.

Disposition

Completed cases may be closed as unfounded, retained for intelligence purposes under review, referred for administrative action, or submitted to the Ministry of Justice or competent military authority. Investigators do not determine guilt or sentence subjects.

Leadership and Coordination

The Associate Director of Investigations establishes standards and assigns major cases through the Central Office. Complex inquiries use a named case officer and lead agency so that parallel Imperial bodies do not compromise evidence or unknowingly investigate one another.
